We put a great deal of thought into what CD's we should offer. Our decision was that we should offer CD's from the groups that are the best at researching the history and traditions of traditional Lithuanian folk music so that their performances give the listener the true historic and traditional sounds. We also wanted to include the groups that are the most popular in Lithuania. As an added treat we included a section that represents what Lithuanian Village Music is all about.
Many of these CD's are no longer available in the stores here. Fortunately Baltic Value has good friends in good places so we have the resources to still get some of these. We went to the effort to get these CD's so that you would be able to hear some of the best CD's from some of the best Lithuanian groups. As new CD's come on the market, we will listen to these and include the ones that give the best representation of traditional Lithuanian folk music. Also when the most popular folk groups release a new CD we will also offer these to you.
LITHUANIAN VILLAGE MUSIC SERIES
When we first offered Kaimo Daina's CD "Menu As Tas Dienas" we offered it as an example of traditional songs of our Lithuanian Villages performed by a traditional village band.
We honestly had no idea it would become so popular. It became one of our most popular CDs.
We now are offering to you a LITHUANIAN VILLAGE MUSIC SERIES so you can enjoy lively performances of songs that represent the musical culture and heritage Lithuania and of our wonderful villages.
The beauty of these CDs are the musicians. Most have not studied music at a university. They have not had professional teachers. They have learned the way most people learn music in our villages. They learn from friends and family the way it has been done for hundreds of years.
Many of the songs are the traditional songs of our Villages that have been handed down from generation to generation. This is the music you hear in the smaller towns and villages on holidays like Joniniu Diena and Uzgavenes. Or maybe it's grandfather Mindaugo birthday and the whole family chips in to have the village band play during the festivities.
